Supported Accommodation

Is living on your own a scary thought?

The Accommodation.

Berwick Youth Project has 2 Supported Accommodation properties in Berwick. They offer 11 bedsits for young people aged 16 to 25 living on their own for the first time, or who have experienced difficulties whilst managing their own home.

The Support.

Our Supported Housing Team provide residents with the support they need to learn some of the basic skills needed for living independently.

The residents are encouraged to participate in activities and learning opportunities which will help then to get and keep their own place. Training is specific to each resident's individual needs but typically includes cooking, cleaning and managing money etc.

Home safety is an important area for all the residents. By working with Berwick Fire Station a course is provided for all residents. The course helps young people to become more aware of the potential fire hazards within a home and what they need to do to keep safe.

FAQs

Q. Is that where the 'druggies' live?
No. As part of our selection process, any person who has been identified as having a drug and/or alcohol addiction will not be offered a place, however they may be referred on to services who may be able to help.

Q. Who might need Supported Accommodation?
It depends on each person. Mostly it is for someone who can't be at home, for whatever reason and who is not yet ready for independent living. It may also be used by young people who live in the country and need to access more central transportation in order to get to college etc.

Q. How do I apply?
Easy, just contact us either by telephone, email or in person and staff will explain the process to you and make an appointment for you to meet the housing team. If you are currently working with another agency, then please speak to them and they can make the referral for you. Referral forms are available on request from the Housing Team

Please note: we do not provide emergency accommodation. If your housing situation is causing problems, please contact us to talk about other options as soon as possible
